Genghis Khan was born in Dadal near to the Siberian border in the north east corner of Mongolia. This is a beautiful area of mountains, forest, lakes and wide rivers. It is also of immense historical significance and we will visit the places where Genghis Khan lived until he became leader of his people and moved his capital to Kharkhorin in Central Mongolia. |
Khentii
Province has the historical distinction of being the homeland of the 13th century conqueror Genghis Khan. Dozens of sites scattered across this province are associated with his life, espcially in his birthplace, Dadal. 
Unique rock carvings date back to the Upper Palaeolithic period (12,000 BC and earlier). Representations of animal figures, inscriptions in old Mongol, Tibetan and Arabic, and geometric symbols can be seen on rocks in Binder district. 
This Buddhist monastery located near to the Jargalant river in Khentii province was established in the 17th century and became the third most important monastery in Mongolia. Most of the temples were destroyed during the Communist era, but the monastery is currently under reconstruction. 
White Lake & Khorgo Volcano National Park on the edge of the Khangai range in Central Mongolia is a thrilling place to ride a motorcycle. Travel across mountain, desert, steppe and forest to get to the lake created 20,000 years ago following volcanic eruption.
The Gobi Desert of Outer Mongolia is one of the world's most exotic places. The big golden dunes are pretty much virgin sand except for the occasional trail of camel footprints. Ride over 1500 km to see Mongolia's Painted Desert as well as the valley where Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first nest of dinosaur eggs.
