Mongolia has the oldest National Park in the world
Mongolians have a long history of nature protection. The ancestors of the Mongolians - the Huns - respected their blue sky and sacred mountains at least as long ago as the first century BC. It becamse a tradition to worship the mountains, rivers and blue sky, and in this way to protect them.
The list of worshipped mountains and waters was decreed by the State. such mountains are the Bogd Khan Uul (since 1778), Khentii (1818), Otgon Tenger (1891), Darigangiin Altan Ovoo (1913) and Suvarage Khairkhan Uul.
