Gobi Desert Off Road Motorcycle Trail

30 August - 8 September 2017 only USD $3195

This trip is a fascinating cultural experience as well as an off-road bike tour across Mongolia of over 1750km. Apart from a few villages and small towns that we pass through on the way, most of the population have a nomadic lifestyle, frequently moving with their round white felt yurts ("gers") and herds of camels, goats and horses. This tour is nearly all on rough jeep tracks across the rolling hills of Middle Gobi and the sparse desert of South Gobi.

Please note that nowadays there are a few competitor motorcycle companies offering the same or similar tours. Some have copied our "Gobi Desert Motorcycle Trail" and website content, given it a new name and advertised it as their own tour, at a cheaper price, perhaps without having tried and tested the route.

Khongor Els Dunes

Khongoryn Els is the largest accumulation of sand in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The wind blows continually, so the dunes can reach an imposing 200 meters height. The highest dunes are called 'Singing Sands' by the local inhabitants.

White Stupa

Tsagaan Suvaraga (White Stupa) limestone rock is about 30 metres high and shaped strangely as a result of wind and water erosion. This area is rich in marine fossils as a huge inland sea once covered it. In the year 2000 an earthquake shook the eastern part of the White Stupa and it partly collapsed.

Ongii Ruins

Ongii Hiid, a once large Buddhist Monastery destroyed in the 1930s lies in the hills on the edge of a bend in the Ongi river. It is a quiet and spiritual place; one can imagine the original busy monastery on one side of the river and the non-religious community on the other side.

Vulture's Canyon

The Bearded Vulture, 'Yol' in Mongolian, has given the valley its name: 'Yolyn Am' means Vulture Gorge. The Gurvan Saikhan National Park is the only area in the southern Gobi Altai region where copses of beech and willow trees have been preserved.

All nights are spent at ger camps where the accommodation is in traditional Mongolian round white felt tents, and there are restaurant and bathroom facilities. Some days are long and require stamina, but towards the end of the tour the distance between ger camps is less and riding days shorter.

KTM 450 Motorbike in Mongolia

Real dirt bike riders will already know that such a bike can readily meet the challenge. Its light weight, electronic and kick start capability, height and reliability, make it ideally suited to Mongolia's rough and remote location.

We have been running motorbike tours since 2005 and now have a total of 20 bikes including KTM 450 EXC bikes and Yamaha WR's. We gradually replace older bikes with newer models. For the first few years we were using Yamaha WR250 motorbikes. They were great - but now we've gone one better. We use KTM 450 EXC off-road enduro bikes for our scheduled motorbike trips in Mongolia. All our motorcycles are fully protected with the necessary frame guards, sump & engine guard, hand guards & radiator guards.

Motorcycle Tour Riding Safety

Above all else, safety is our most important concern and motorcycling is a dangerous activity.

We will be riding in remote areas far from good medical facilities. Therefore you must follow all our instructions with regard to protective clothing and safe riding. Our motorcycle tours in Mongolia are not suitable for beginners and the more experienced you are at off-road riding, the better you will enjoy the trip. Get in as much practice as you can before the tour and if necessary take some lessons. Understand that this is not a RACE or COMPETITION. See more information about safety issue click here: SECTION 13. Mongolia is a great country for off-road riding and our tours offer a wonderful opportunity to see the way of life of the nomadic people of Central Asia. To ensure the smooth running of our motorcycle tours everyone is obliged to follow these instructions and to abide by our tour leader.

About Bike Mongolia

Bike Mongolia is a family run business which has been operating since 1998. We started with mountain biking tours because the founder of the company was the Olympic trainer for the Mongolian National Cycling Team and several members of the team are former racing cyclists. In 2005 we expanded to include off-road motorcycling tours in Mongolia. We have offices in the UK and Germany staffed by locals & Mongolians who have done most of the trips themselves so they know everything about the tour logistics, routes, landscape, accommodation, etc..  We are a completely independent travel tour operator in Mongolia, not an agent or representative of any other company. In addition we have the best & most enthusiastic team who work efficiently together to create the best experience.
