Gobi Desert to Lake Khovsgol

This is a suggestion for a tailor-made tour which we can run for groups of 4 or more people, at dates of your choice.

Several years ago we found out about a local jeep trail going over the Khangai mountains in Central Mongolia from the Gobi Desert to the ancient capital of Mongolia at Kharkhorin. It has become our most popular cycling route and we have extended it to include the northern region of Khovsgol. Cycle for 10 days through remote and fantastic valleys and hills before arriving at the beautiful Lake Khovsgol, where you can stay in a traditional ger camp at the water's edge for a further 2 nights before flying back to Ulaanbaatar.

For riders who plan to cycle the whole trail, this is classified as challenging. The daily distance varies up to a maximum of 65km, mostly on rough jeep tracks composed of packed mud and rock. There are several long slow uphill stretches and technical downhill runs, as well as river crossings and dry rocky river beds. For cyclists with less experience it is possible to travel in the support vehicle for part of the trail if you wish. The highest pass is at an altitude of nearly 2800 meters.
