This off-road motorbike “Mongolia Master Rally” Motorcycle Trail is follows part of the route taken by the MAMF, the "Mongolian Automotive & Motorcycle Federation" annual event. The trip is in a remote part of ‘Ovorkhangai’ province and we travel south from Ulaanbaatar to the edge of the Gobi Desert, returning via a more mountainous landscape.

  • Ikh Gazariin Chuluu is in the granite belt of Mongolia
  • Gobi/Saksaul Trees are small to medium sized tree
  • The desert-steppe zone on the northern rim of the Gobi Desert
  • Mt.Bogd Uul is one of the three mountains of the Gobi-Altai

This 1600 km route will be a challenge. Track will be fast and other times it is rough and difficult so technical skill and stamina are required because the daily riding hours are long. The trip is in a remote part of ‘Ovorkhangai’ province and we travel south from Ulaanbaatar to the edge of the Gobi Desert, returning via a more mountainous landscape. If you need comfort or luxury of any kind, this trip is not for you!. Every night will be spent camping in tents and there are no washing or toilet facilities.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

THIS ITINERARY IS SUITABLE FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS, PREFERABLY WITH SOME OFF-ROAD EXPERIENCE.

  • DAY 1

Arrive in   'Ulaanbaatar' and go to hotel. Evening meet the tour leader and rest of group for Technical Briefing. The meeting talks about day by day itinerary and safety issues. Overnight in hotel.

  • DAY 2

After allocating the bikes, set off from the city, riding first to   'Nalaikh', then going off-road. The landscape is open and hilly with several low passes to cross. There are some unusual granite rock formations and we stop in such a place at midday. After lunch continue riding to the village of ‘Bayan-Tsagaan’ and set up camp in the surrounding hills.   'Overnight Camping'

  • DAY 3

Ride through ‘Gobi Ugtaal’ village then to the mountains known as   'Ikh Gazariin Chuluu' where the highest peaks are at an altitude of over 1760 meters. This is an amazing place with a dramatic skyline and is a very photogenic place to set up camp.

  • DAY 4

The landscape then becomes more   'Desert like' as we ride southwards in the direction of the Gobi, and the herds of camels are often large. Arrive at   'Mandal-Gobi', capital of Middle Gobi province, in the afternoon, then ride a little further to set up camp on the open steppe. Overnight outdoor camping. The track proceeds towards the dark massif of   "Delgerkhangai" mountain, which we ride towards for several hours before arriving at the village of ‘Delgerkhangai’ at the foot of the mountain. The road winds up into the mountains to the highest pass at 1502 meters altitude. This is another unexpected and exciting mountain range in the middle of the central   'Mongolian Steppe'. Exit the mountains and ride on mainly flat terrain in an increasingly remote wilderness, many tracks of which are not marked on maps at all.

  • DAY 5

We ride parallel with a range of low rocky hills with many holes and caves in. As we approach the northern edge of the Gobi Desert the ground becomes sandy with many pink flowering grasses and 'Zag' (“Saxaul”) trees. This is the true home of the 'Bactrian Camel'. Sometimes the track is sandy, but if it rains this turns to sticky clay making very difficult driving; occasionally the road has been destroyed by rain. Pass beside “Ulaan Khamariin Bulsh” whose red cliffs are an interesting feature on the landscape. Ahead lie the big dark 'Arts Bogdiin Nuruu' mountains. Camp near the village of 'Bogd'.

  • DAY 6

Now travelling northwards, many tracks   'Criss-Cross' the countryside, dividing and re-joining, or going off in another direction. Sometimes the road is in a very poor condition having been   'Partly Destroyed' by flooding, and after rain would be muddy and difficult to ride. Cross a bridge over the “Arguut” river and pass through several small villages before setting up camp in the hills leading to ‘Sant’ village. Overnight camping.

  • DAY 7

From the village of ‘Sant’ the scenery is pretty with fertile rolling hills and layer upon layer of mountains in the background. Some areas have unusually   'Shaped Rocks' as we ride onward to Erdendalia village. Nowadays most traffic uses the new tarmac road, so in many cases the old tracks we ride on are becoming indistinct and are in a poor condition. Finally we reach   'Zorgol Khairkhan' mountain. Overnight camping.

  • DAY 8

Beyond Zorgol Khairkhan mountain we ride to Bayan-Unjuul village and through nearby sand dunes. Part of the distance today will be on the   'New Tarmac Road', to arrive in Ulaanbaatar on the east side of the city.   Overnight hotel.

  • DAY 9

    Departure.

  • USD   3095/ppTour price is based on a group of 4 people.  We accept other major currencies.

Master Rally Mongolia Motorcycle Trail Map

KTM Master Rally Motorcycle Tour Map Circular route starting from Ulaanbaatar and going to the Northern edge of the Gobi Desert then return to capital city. Mongolia is a great place for a motorcycle tour, but it is only suitable for confident riders with off-road experience. The routes are too remote and the terrain too rough for beginners. In parts of the country there are no facilities for tourists so we camp in the wilderness.
